There is a power to a smile. It has an energy. It might seem like this is a stupid statement to make but there is something very powerful about a smile.

It needs to be a sincere smile. It can't be a forced smile that has nothing behind it. By that I mean it cannot be a smile that you simply try to fake.

It has to be a genuine smile based on something that has made you happy or made you feel grateful or has brought you joy or laughter.

A genuine smile creates a huge amount of positive energy and has an almost immediate effect on people around you.

They don't need to know you to be influenced by the power of a smile. They don't even have to be looking at you to experience the power of a smile.

To benefit all they need to do is to be in the vicinity of you smiling.

Remember it has to be a genuine smile - not a fake smile you see on the faces of politicians or news presenters.

Within a few minutes, people will start smiling and not even know why they are smiling. It also has an impact on the mood and mindset of those influenced by your smile.

You will notice people being happier and more forgiving, positive and open to others and/or appear less grumpy or hostile. They remember good times and express genuine positivity towards others.

Then when others see those people smiling, they too begin to smile expressing more positivity. And just like a pebble hitting still water, the ripples cascade outwards sweeping up more and more people into the power of just one smile - your smile.

That's why and how a smile has such tremendous power and generates such a significant amount of positive energy fuelling your heart and soul, including for those people influenced by your smile. And that positive energy stays with you for a while so make use of it!

Experiment

If you have any doubts about the power of smiling or if you want to see just how much power a simple genuine smile can have, try this experiment.

Go to a public place like a shopping mall and sit on a bench or the food court; or get on a train and unleash your smile.

You will find, soon enough, that people around you will start smiling.

Now if you wait a little longer, you see the ripple effect of your smile. You will see people moving through that space begin smiling too.

When you leave you'll discover there are a lot more people smiling, including people who were not near you when you started this experiment.
